PROGRAM HISTORY

Stoughton Affordable Transportation Program was founded in May 2010 under the name of "Stoughton United Ministries." The name of the organization was later changed in June 2019 to Stoughton Affordable Transportation Program, Inc. The program is  a response to the increasing transportation challenges faced by those in need of transportation for significant appointments and services in the Cities of Stoughton and Madison. Unlike larger cities, public transportation is not provided in many rural communities. Even though there are some social service agencies, a hospital, and medical clinics in Stoughton, many specialized services from businesses and organizations are located in Madison (i.e. housing, employment, legal help, and treatment for specific medical issues).  Safe, reliable, and affordable transportation from Stoughton ATP can be a stepping stone to an improvement in the quality of life for many individuals.
